Advocacy

Forward Together / Act Against Coal Ash Oral History Interviews and Civil Rights Documentation Initiative with Walnut Tree/Walnut Cove Residents (2015-16), including performance research and advocacy collaboration in prayer vigils, press events:

  • Presentation of research and collaborative planning/organizing with residents for their presentations at U.S. Commission on Civil Rights hearing (2016) in Walnut Cove, NC on "Coal Ash Disposal: Health and Environmental Issues", in collaboration with NAACP NC Forward Together Moral Movement Civil Rights Investigation, Breast Cancer Action, and IRB 15-2371 research 

  • Creative Resistance: Fighting Toxins + Fossil Fuels with Dr. Sandra Steingraber, Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler, panel with NC leaders from low-income and communities of color affected by coal ash waste and pipelines, @Sonja Hanes Stone Center for Black Culture + History (co-convener, 2017)

Breast Cancer ActionCommunity Leader for Change, NC (2014-ongoing)

WomenNC -- Advocacy Board (2014-15), raising a generation that honors women's human rights

Triangle Dance Festival for AIDS -- Co-Founded with Dr. Chuck Davis (2006, 2008 Exec. Dir. of Board, CAB Director 2009-12):

  • Region's best professional arts companies + community performers (international + local dance, spoken word, drum lines)

  • Gathering diverse audiences (200-800 yearly) for commissioned artworks on topics in "what's working in the global + local fight against HIV" in order to "create dialogue where it wouldn't be otherwise, and action where it needs to be now."

  • Health gala + volunteer/organizing fair with region's health, cultural, spiritual leaders following.

  • Raising funds annually for direct-service AIDS organizations in rural and urban NC and internationally (South and Southeast Asia, Eastern and Southern Africa, Central and South America, and others).

UNC Center for AIDS Research (2009-2010) -- Liaison for Health, Faith, Arts Initiatives, including director/producer, script writer for "What is a CFAR?" film for NIH, and director of Voicing Wisdom Legislative and Community Action Project
